Remembering Mr. Kanin

“Playwrighting is a difficult mystique. I remember my master and mentor Thornton Wilder once saying to a group of friends, ‘Playwrighting is not an intellectual pursuit. Remembering Mr. Kanin

We can’t let this day go by without saying: On March 13, 1999, Garson Kanin died. This plaque, bearing a quote from Born Yesterday, is part of Library Way, the 41st Street block leading to the NY Public Library. There was a period after Ruth Gordon died, when he would toss pennies as he walked down Central Park South. Why? He said, “Whoever picks up the penny will consider it good luck!” Today, if you find a penny during your walk, consider it a personal good luck message from Gar.
